Father John Maina Ndegwa of Igwamiti Catholic Church is being laid to rest today at the Tabor Hill Spirituality Centre in Ol-Joro Orok Constituency. The solemn Requiem Mass is being celebrated by Bishop Joseph Mbatia and is attended by fellow clergy, members of the Christian faithful, and a number of local leaders.
Fr. Mainaās tragic death shocked the community. He was discovered last Thursday along the Gilgil-Nairobi Highway, suffering from severe head injuries. He later succumbed while undergoing treatment at St. Josephās Mission Hospital. According to reports, the priest told a boda boda rider who found him that he had been abducted from Nyahururu.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has since disclosed that Fr. Maina may have been targeted by individuals seeking a portion of a donation he received from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during a church function on April 27. The late priest had reportedly shared concerns about threats to his safety but had not officially reported them to the authorities.
