The JKIA Law Courts have rejected a bid by four suspects to contest the court’s jurisdiction in the murder probe of Kasipul MP Charles Were. Magistrate Irene Gichohi ruled that since the suspects are still under investigation, there is no legal reason barring the court from considering the DCI’s request to detain them for 30 days. Among the suspects are the MP’s bodyguard, driver, and a neighbor from his rural area. They had argued for the case to be moved to Milimani or Kibra courts, citing jurisdiction, but the magistrate emphasized the court is only being asked to grant detention orders—not conduct a trial. With the objection dismissed, the court will now review the DCI’s detention application.
