Kalonzo Demands Independent Probe Into Ogolla’s Death, Rejects KDF’s “Accident” Narrative

In a dramatic press conference on Thursday, Wiper Democratic Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka launched a scathing challenge against the official account of General Francis Ogolla’s death, calling for an independent investigation into the helicopter crash that killed Kenya’s military chief and ten others last April.

The former Vice President dismissed the Kenya Defence Forces’ conclusion – released a full year after the tragic incident – that mechanical failure caused the Bell Huey helicopter to crash in Elgeyo Marakwet County. “This wasn’t an accident,” Kalonzo declared, his voice rising with emotion. “When the second most protected person in this country dies in a helicopter crash, we must ask hard questions.”

Kalonzo pointed to several red flags:
• The unusual assignment of Kenya’s top soldier to inspect primary schools
• Witnessed previous attempts to remove Ogolla from the National Security Council
• The helicopter’s alleged mechanical failure despite strict military maintenance protocols

“Tell DCI Amin to summon me now,” he challenged, switching between English and Swahili to emphasize his point. “We’ll walk across Kenya with Gen Z to demand answers. Since when does the CDF inspect primary schools?”

The politician framed the incident as potentially criminal negligence at best, suggesting darker possibilities. His remarks referenced Ogolla’s principled stand in security matters, hinting at possible motives: “Some had vowed to remove him for doing his National Security Council duty.”

While the Defence Ministry’s technical report detailed an engine surge, power loss, and the telltale “loud bang” witnesses heard before the crash, Kalonzo insisted these explanations don’t address the bigger questions. “You don’t play with the lives of our top commanders,” he stated, directly addressing President Ruto’s administration.

The emotional press conference has reignited public debate about the tragedy, with Kalonzo positioning himself as the voice demanding accountability. As Kenya’s political temperature rises, all eyes now turn to whether authorities will convene the independent inquiry he demands – or let the official report stand as the final word on Ogolla’s controversial demise.
