President Ruto Fulfills Education Pledge for Vulnerable Girls, Announces Broader Reforms

President William Ruto has honored his March 2025 commitment to sponsor 170 vulnerable girls from Nairobi County (10 from each of the 17 constituencies) to join PCEA Booth Girls’ High School. During a State House breakfast meeting with beneficiaries, parents, and teachers, Ruto emphasized his administration’s focus on inclusive education, stating:Ā “This initiative targets girls from needy homes who would otherwise struggle to access education. I instructed the Ministry of Education to identify deserving students, and I will personally pay their school fees.”

The comprehensive sponsorship covers tuition, uniforms, and supplies. The President further disclosed he currently supports over 200 students at the institution, which has received additional teachers from the TSC to enhance education quality. Several Nairobi leaders attended the event, including MPs Jalang’o (Lang’ata), Beatrice Elachi (Dagoretti North), Anthony Oluoch (Mathare), and Woman Rep Esther Passaris.

Ruto outlined broader education reforms, including:

  • Construction ofĀ 23,000 new classroomsĀ nationwide (withĀ 240 in Nairobi, funded by Ksh 1 billion) to address CBC transition needs, to be completed withinĀ 90 days

  • A new school inĀ Mabatini, MathareĀ to alleviate local education challenges

  • A forthcomingĀ national-county government frameworkĀ to streamline scholarship and bursary distribution, with Ruto calling educationĀ “the greatest equalizer”

The President also:

  • Confirmed progress on theĀ Affordable Housing Programme, with homeowners set to receive keys soon

  • Urged leaders to prioritize development over politics:Ā “This is not the time for politics… Let us deliver tangible change.”

Attending MPs praised the initiatives, with Jalang’o thanking Ruto forĀ “touching lives”Ā and Elachi notingĀ “No other President has done this before.”Ā Oluoch encouraged the sponsored students to maximize the opportunity.
